August newsletter

Hello and welcome to the August edition of the Brighton Person-Centred Community news.

The Community will be having an online meeting again this Saturday 15th August - see below. We are in discussion about the possibility of continuing online meetings alongside in person meetings in future, although we await to hear when Friends Meeting House, where we hold the meeting, will re-open.

Also in this newsletter we have information on an opportunity to give support to NHS staff, an opportunity to get involved with a local counsellors organisation (SCAP) and information on counselling rooms to rent. If you have anything you'd like to share that you think would be supportive for Community members or want to reach out for something yourself, do consider using this newsletter as a way to do so.

Community meetings online

The meeting will take place at the usual time of 9.30-12.30 this Saturday 15th August. As it's online there will be no fee to attend. To join the meeting just copy the link into your browser

Meeting ID: 812 6572 2795

Passcode: 890274

If you find that it isn't allowing you to connect (or says the meeting hasn't started yet), you might wish to try searching in the Zoom app (you'll need it downloaded to do this) using the meeting ID provided. It will then ask you for the password.

Make sure you're ready a bit before the meeting starts to check your online set up and have your cup of tea ready!

Got some free time? Want to support NHS staff?

Frontline19 is a portal to match NHS staff in need with online therapy providers who are willing to provide support pro bono. You sign up, say what your credentials are and how many hours a week you feel able to offer.

Ever considered contributing to Sussex Counselling?

SCAP (Sussex Counselling and Psychotherapy) is an organisation which many of you may be members of or be aware of. They provide a directory of counsellors, a magazine and CPD events. They are in need of people to join their committee and also need someone to be Secretary. It could be great for your CV and networking and you might really enjoy it! So do consider if you can give a little time to help SCAP continue the work that we value.

If you can volunteer a little time you will get

  • free membership for a year

  • free attendance at a CPD event if you are helping out there

  • networking with other counsellors

  • experience of working in a team to organise things

  • hours spent working for the group can count towards CPD

You would need to

  • Attend 5 meetings this year (on zoom currently)

  • Possibly help with stuffing the magazine into envelopes three times a year

  • Possibly be a link person for Newly Qualified Counsellors

Community Meetings

At the moment the regular physical meetings re suspended. Under normal circumstances Community Meetings are held on the third Saturday at each month at the Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AF. We meet upstairs, usually in room 3, but the room number will be indicated on the whiteboard which is next to the Reception desk. Newcomers are always welcome, come along, say hi and see what it’s all about!

The meeting runs from 9:30 to 12:30, but arrive a little earlier to give yourself time to prepare a drink. The cost is £5 to cover hire of room and tea, coffee and biscuits.

Social Media

We have an ever growing presence on Facebook and Twitter, so join us there, if you haven't already :) it's a great way to share updates on Community stuff and Counselling related articles.

If you see anything interesting that you'd like to share with the Community please feel free to post to our Facebook page, tweet us, or send by e-mail to and we'll share it for you.

If you're on Facebook why not 'like' our Brighton Person-Centred Community Facebook Page and join the other 160 plus people who enjoy our posts? Or if you prefer to Tweet our twitter following is now over 350 people! Find us @BrightonPCC.

Right, that's all from us for now. If we don't see you at the forthcoming meeting you'll hear from us again next month with the latest from the community.

Best wishes
