February Newsletter

The latest news from the Brighton Person-Centred Community...

Hello and welcome to the February edition of the Brighton Person-Centred Community news.

We will be meeting on Saturday 15th February and hope to see you there. See below for details. In this newsletter we have information on a workshop about working with boarding school survivors and an invitation to help spending some dosh on Person Centred causes.

Meeting about BPCC Funds

There will be a meeting on 29th February at 10.30 - venue to be confirmed - to discuss plans for use of the Community's funds. If you would like to participate in this discussion and help with taking the organisation of this forward please contact William on willjaj@virginmedia.com. It's great that we have some funds at our disposal and we have some ideas on ways they can be put to use to benefit Person Centred Practitioners and clients - now we need some people with time and energy to implement them.

Working with Privileged Abandonment

A CPD day on the clinical challenges of working with ex-boarders with Nick Duffell and the Boarding School Survivors Team is taking place in Lewes on Saturday 22nd February 2020.

This one-day workshop will provide a mix of didactic teaching and practical learning with full handouts and CPD certificates for attendees.

Nick Duffell has practised as a psychotherapist for 30 years, is an experienced trainer, and is an Honorary Research Associate at UCL. His books include The Making of Them: The British Attitude to Children and the Boarding School System (2000) and Trauma, Abandonment, and Privilege: A guide to therapeutic work with boarding school survivors, with Thurstine Basset (2016). The cost is £95 which includes refreshments but not lunch. The day runs from 10am to 5.30 pm and will be held at the Linklater Pavilion, Lewes BN7 2FG. For more information or to book contact info@boardingsurvivors.co.uk

Cost of attending our meetings

The cost of the Saturday meeting remains £5, but we do not want that to be a barrier to accessing the meeting, so if you cannot afford £5 you can pay a donation that you can afford. And if you can afford more than £5 then that's fine too.

Your newsletter...

Do remember that you can share things via this newsletter. If there's anything you think would be of relevance to your Person Centred peers feel free to send it in to the email address at the bottom and we can include it here. You might have something you'd like to let us know or you might even have a question to ask and perhaps others reading this newsletter can help answer it...

Community Meetings

Community Meetings are held on the third Saturday at each month at the Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AF. We meet upstairs, usually in room 3, but the room number will be indicated on the whiteboard which is next to the Reception desk. Newcomers are always welcome, come along, say hi and see what it’s all about!

The meeting runs from 9:30 to 12:30, with a short break at around eleven, but arrive a little earlier to give yourself time to prepare a drink. The cost is £5 to cover hire of room and tea, coffee and biscuits.
