Newsletter - October 2018
Hello and welcome to the October edition of the Brighton Person-Centred Community news.
The leaves are changing colour... what might be changing for you as the seasons change? As things dry up and die off, they make way for new growth, for newness to come into that space, when it is ready...
Our next meeting is this Saturday 20th October and we hope to see you there. See below for details.
We have a full newsletter this month. It's great that people are using this community resource to share and seek information to support our practice and development. This month we have some info on CPD on working with young people, a new peer supervision group in the making, an opportunity to gain free membership of BAPCA and a room hire opportunity. Read on...
Introduction to Counselling & Therapeutic work with Young People -
Meeting young people’s needs in the complexity of the modern world
Weekend workshop and training for counsellors who wish to gain knowledge
and experience of counselling young people informed by the BACP competencies. This experiential course is about engagement and context and will explore the differences between counselling young people and adults, looking at neuroscience, physical and social development and the impact of the modern world. Each day will have a balance of theory and practice with a focus on linking to our collective experience of work with young people.
The YPC fosters a sense of community and encourages a network of practitioners who are passionate about helping young people find their way from selfies to self-actualisation.
Your own inner young person is a welcome and an essential part of the training in learning what helps and hinders counselling young people.
Facilitators: Alistair Mayor & Sian Jones, both experienced trainers, counsellors and supervisors of work with young people.
Cost for the weekend £235 or early bird price £200 by the end of
September. Lunch and refreshments are included.
CPD certificate of attendance.

Bryony, a Person-Centred counsellor (qualified 2012) who has been attending the Community meetings has just started out in private practice and is looking to either join an existing peer supervision group, or to start a new one.
I am open to being in a group of mixed modalities providing there is a shared appreciation of the Person-Centred approach. I imagine the group would meet monthly but I am open to suggestion regarding the detail of how this group would be run. I would like to keep costs to a minimum, but minimising cost is not my only motive. I would like to mix the benefits of formal 1:1 supervision with peer group support and sharing. A mix of levels of experience could be good - ideally there would be someone in the group who is at least as experienced as me. I could possibly accommodate meetings at my house - Saturday mornings could work.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to know more about me, if you’re interested in the opportunity or you have any suggestions please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org

Benefits of membership are a great members' magazine - Person Centred Quarterly, an academic journal - Person Centred and Experiential Psychotherapies, free listing in the therapists directory, reduced fees for a variety of things and a general sense of connection to the wider Person Centred Community.

Community Meetings are held on the third Saturday at each month at the Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AF (see map). We meet upstairs, usually in room 3, but the room number will be indicated on the whiteboard which is next to the Reception desk. Newcomers are always welcome, come along, say hi and see what it’s all about!
The next meeting at the Friends Meeting House is Saturday 20th October. The meeting runs from 9:30 to 12:30, but arrive a little earlier to give yourself time to prepare a drink. The cost is £5 to cover hire of room and tea, coffee and biscuits.
